X-files is undoubtedly one of the most cult series on American television. It left its mark on French serivores when it was broadcast on M6 in 1994, before making its return to the screens between 2016 and 2018. The science fiction series which follows the investigations of FBI special agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully into unsolved cases involving paranormal phenomena launched the careers of its two lead actors and actresses: David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. Even today, the series initiated by Fox remains unclassifiable and incomparable.
David Duchovny / Fox Mulder
David Duchovny played the role of FBI agent Fox Mulder from 1993 and 2002, before reprising it for the film X-Files: Regeneration in 2008, as well as for 2 additional seasons in 2016 and 2018. In the meantime, we owe him the main role in the series Californication, in which he plays writer Hank Moody. Having never really established himself in cinema, David Duchovny reoriented himself towards writing and music. He thus becomes an established writer and musician, having published five books and released three albums since 2015. But in this year 2024, the American actor has once again said yes to cinema, since he written, directed, and starred in the film Reverse the Curse, a romantic comedy about the challenges of aging and family.
Gillian Anderson / Dana Scully
While some only know Gillian Anderson thanks to her roles in Sex Education or in that of the British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in The Crown – two series which were a hit on Netflix – the American actress made herself known in X-Files, playing the methodical scientist Dana Scully. Some time ago, The American actress revealed that she had tensions with her screen partner David Duchovny during the filming of the cult science fiction series. “It’s crazy that we were able to display feelings, emotions and attraction on screen, even though we didn’t speak to each other for weeks,” she blurted.
Robert Patrick / John Doggett
If Robert Patrick’s face tells you anything, that’s normal. Today’s 66-year-old actor played the terrible robot T-1000 facing Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator 2. But he also played Agent John Doggett, a central character in seasons 8 and 9, alongside Scully in X-Files. After several villain roles, the actor recently stood out for joining the DC Cinematic Universe by playing one of the main characters in the series. Peacemaker by James Gunn, series dedicated to the eponymous character played by John Cena, then for having taken on the role of Sheriff William McDowell in the western series 1923prequel to Yellowstone.
Annabeth Gish / Monica Reyes
Annabeth Gish joins the cast of the eighth season playing Monica Reyes, John Doggett’s partner, then continues her role in the ninth and tenth seasons. A fan of series, she was notably part of Pretty Little Liars, and was a guest on an episode of Once Upon A Time.
Mitch Pileggi / Walter Skinner
Appeared in season 2 of X-Files, Mitch Pileggi is one of the series’ most recurring actors for his role as FBI Deputy Director Walter Skinner. The actor, who also had a stint in the series Dallas, Sons of Anarchy or even Grey’s Anatomy, also made appearances in both films, The X-Files : le film (1998) et X-Files: Regeneration (2008). Recently, the 72-year-old actor has not appeared in any project.
