This is WhatsApp’s new favorites feature

Messaging service WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature that lets you group your favorite contacts, both in your chats and calls. This will likely make your conversation list a lot more organized – and, above all, more peaceful.

While most iOS or Android apps have long offered a separate list to keep track of your favorite contacts at a glance, WhatsApp has now discovered how useful this can be. In addition to individuals, you can also mark groups as favorites, so you can distinguish between your loved ones, your colleagues and that bachelorette party.

Such a feature is particularly useful if, like many of us, you are inundated with messages on a daily basis and therefore Real important messages. While you always have the option to mute groups or people completely, a simple reorganization might be enough to bring some social focus. Below, we explain how to use this option.

Where can I find the option?

When you view the chat screen, you will notice a new filter button at the top called ‘Favorites’. Once there, you can add your favorite contacts. If you want to add a group, it works a little differently: go to your favorite group and then open the group settings by selecting the group name at the top of the conversation. Now scroll all the way down and select ‘Add to Favorites’.

If you want to remove a person or group from your favorites, the quickest way to do this is to select the ‘Manage Favorites’ button at the bottom of your Favorites list and ‘downgrade’ the desired people to the regular list. Incidentally, others will not see that you have added them as a favorite or that you have removed them afterwards. So you do not have to worry about people being notified, as was the case in the past with read receipts for messages (you know, those blue check marks).

I don’t see the option yet

Don’t worry, it may be that your version of WhatsApp doesn’t have the new feature yet. Give it some time, the new version should be rolled out to everyone this month.

If you want to bring some order to your lists in the meantime, you might consider pinning conversations. This feature is fairly hidden and can only be found by swiping right on a group or contact and then selecting ‘Pin’ to permanently keep it at the top. This also allows you to create an additional hierarchy of your favorite contacts, so that you can Real you will never miss.
