This is why visiting family is dangerous for drivers

We know that driving while intoxicated or in a state of inebriation or pressing the phone severely impairs the reaction time of drivers and thus increases the risk of accidents. However, there may be other reasons why the driver may react more slowly.

Like the transport science institute shows that lavish holiday feasts can easily become dangerous.

It is a medically proven fact that most people feel tired after eating too much heavy food. Not only heavy Hungarian food, fatty meats, loop sausages, and stuffed cabbage can make you drowsy, but also foods containing quickly absorbed carbohydrates. The latter include all sugary cakes made from white flour, including bagels.

As they write in their article, after a meal, the human body uses its resources to utilize the food eaten, so less blood gets to the brain, so concentration, which is necessary for safe driving, may decrease.

On the other hand, according to KTI, the source of the problem is that foods that quickly raise blood sugar levels increase the level of serotonin in our body, which causes sleepiness.

Due to the waning attention, they notice pedestrians walking on the side of the road later, and it is worse to assess the distance between those walking in front of them and those coming from their eyes.

At the same time, kayak coma can also indicate insulin resistance, which can later turn into type 2 diabetes, and can even indicate hypothyroidism. If kayak coma occurs too often and it is no longer necessary to eat too much to fall asleep, it is worth consulting a doctor. The effects of too low and too high blood sugar levels can appear quickly and intensely, which can be dangerous.

KTI also provides drivers with good advice.

Before driving:

  • do not drink alcohol;
  • avoid heavy meals and overeating;
  • do not set off on a full stomach, take a short walk before setting off;
  • they should not travel tired;
  • don’t try coffee because it can cause an even stronger feeling of fatigue afterwards;
  • do not overheat the passenger compartment, because the heat also makes you sleepy, especially if your stomach is full;
