This large clock is digital and analog and should make a nice sound

Making a clock that is digital and analog and has a terribly low resolution. That must have been the goal of the makers of the new so-called Klapklok. The Dutch company Miniot made a clock that consists of 69 ‘pixels’.

The Miniot folding clock consists of 69 squares that can be white or black. They display the time analogously, because the squares where the hands are positioned turn black. Every two and a half minutes the hands of the clock become visible in a new location, which is accompanied by the sound of flipping squares.

The clock displays the time digitally every hour. “By moving all the flaps at the same time, a peaceful, soothing rustle is created. Like the sound of 69 butterflies,” Miniot writes in a press release.

The clock has a diameter of 43 centimeters and is only 13 millimeters thick. The whole thing can be controlled and the time can be set via an app. You can also make drawings in the app that consist of the 69 ‘pixels’ of the clock, which you can then display on your Klapklok. You connect your phone to the dial with Bluetooth.

Clock costs around 2,000 euros

The Klapklok is handmade in Schagen in North Holland, where the Wheel 2 record player is also made. The first 25 clocks will be sent before Christmas and can be purchased for 1,800 euros each. That price is lower than the price of 2,400 euros for which the Klapkloks will ultimately have to be sold.
