six months ago, Josh King took on the task of showing his own 3D printed gamepad. He wanted to have an accessory that redefines the concept of mobile games and he has clearly achieved it. The dream is now part of a reality that a company will turn into an official accessory. Soon we will be able to see this gamepad being sold in stores, but not before make a first effort through Kickstarter.
The gamepad we didn’t know we needed for the iPhone will become a reality
The concern of the young Josh King, 19 years old, was to have a video game controller that was small enough to fit in your pocket and that he had the ability to connect to mobile. Was it something impossible? He got tired of looking for a solution, thanks to the fact that he has a 3D printer he took on the task of creating his own gamepad.
Thanks to the fact that he invested time instead of going to classes, when a vacation period arrived, He decided to create a first prototype and it was better than he thought.. He took on the task of documenting everything, edited and published a video in June 2024 that went viral on YouTube, the same as picked up The Verge for this article.
The success obtained was such that he decided to found his own company “Mcom”. Now it has a work team that managed to hire another company to design its own gamepads thanks to investors. who were interested in Josh’s project. New prototypes came out and comments and suggestions were collected from a community via Discord. The road was not easy at all since the new prototypes were not turning out better than projected.. The solution was more practical and simple, They contacted the company Oh Snap, which is dedicated to launching revolutionary products that had not been able to come to light due to technical problems such as those with the gamepad. The rest is history.
The best accessory to play on the iPhone is the Mcon
It can fit in your pocket and the best of all is that has the best possible grip thanks to MagSafe compatible magnets. If you want to use your iPhone later you should not remove it since the entire remote control is collapsed in such a way that it is hidden. You must press two buttons to discover the assembly by means of a spring that is actuated upwards.
The version that Oh Snap created improved the analog joysticks that you could find on a product like the Nintendo Switch, in addition to having a body that can be held as if it were a console controller.
There is no official launch price yet. but It is possible to register to be notified when the Kickstarter campaign is active. It will be available in two colors, white and black, although it is not ruled out that they are in different colors that can be combined. In case you didn’t know, Xbox and PlayStation remotes can connect to your iPhone or iPad.
