Apple hasn’t been doing very well lately when it comes to software updates and delivering new products at launch. And according to the latest information provided by Marek Gurman – it will get even worse.
Software updates and many years of support are, in the eyes of many commentators, one of the greatest advantages of the Apple ecosystem. Many, but not all. There is no shortage of people who accuse Apple of artificially aging devices, because although the new iPhone was extremely fast and trouble-free, after a few system updates it visibly slowed down. Hence, we have already witnessed court battles in this climate several times.
iOS has also had more problems in recent years. Apple happened to release a dud that was barely usable. Mistake after mistake, regular problems with use and the struggle to minimize losses. Therefore, in the following years, the giant from Cupertino slowed down and focused on higher quality control of the solutions and new products offered. However, it turns out that everything is slowly dragging on over time and the changes announced at the June WWDC conference are largely not reaching the users with the new system. The situation is not rosy right now, and as Mark Gurman informs in his latest entry, his information shows that the situation will be even worse this year.
Apple is slow to come up with new features in iOS. We will be waiting for new functions many months after the system’s premiere
It is worth keeping in mind that this is early information that reaches us several months before the official announcements of iOS 19 – and about 10 months before the premiere of the system. However, looking at how things are going with iOS 18, no one will be surprised if this information is reflected in reality. This year’s WWDC also announced functions that will be available on smartphones no earlier than next spring with iOS 18.4 (e.g. refreshed Siri).
In recent years, we have become accustomed to the fact that new versions of iOS usually bring us some cosmetic changes – and this is a regular evolution of the system, not a revolution introduced at a rapid pace. Apple releases new products – which, considering their small number, makes… a lot of sense. However, there is no shortage of impatient observers who would like to see the great news announced by Apple reach our hands with the premiere of new devices. And it seems that this year’s spread of the implementation of new functions is just a prelude, because next year things are going to be even worse. At least that’s what Mark Gurman says.
They show that next year even fewer new products will be ready for launch – and the premiere of the lion’s share of key new products will be postponed until spring 2026, when iOS will be version 19.4. And what are the big news? Well – at the moment we can only navigate in the fog of rumors, but Apple is allegedly working on new algorithms for Siri that “are intended to deal with queries at the level of ChatGPT and Gemini from Google.”
What’s new is what’s new – but from the user’s perspective, I can only hope that the new versions of the system will not turn out to be as problematic as they were in the past. And as long as the basics are preserved, I can patiently wait for new things…
