Lens manufacturer Leica has unveiled a new projector and you know: it costs a lot of money. The new projector has triple RGB laser technology, very high brightness and 4K projections up to 300 inches.
Of Leica Cine Play 1 has a lot to offer, but that is only right considering the rather hefty price tag 3500 euro. The device exudes class in almost every respect. The aluminum and glass housing looks nice and sleek and if you also buy a stand for 395 euros, you are assured of slick cable management. You hide all the cables neatly in the stand. Perfect if you want to integrate the projector neatly into your perfectly furnished living room.
Under that beautiful housing there is a lot of technology that almost makes the true film fanatic think: that is worth 3500 euros to me. In addition to supporting almost all 4K video formats, the lamp produces a huge amount of light with 3000 ANSI Lumen, more than most smart mini projectors from competitors.
Only Hisense will introduce a formidable competitor later this month: the C2-Ultra Beamer. It also has a light output of 3000 ANSI Lumen and, at 2499 euros, is slightly less hard on your wallet.
Good lens and 300 inch projections
You can of course expect Leica to have a big fat lens in its latest handy projector. That does not disappoint with the Summicron zoom lens, which costs more than 2650 euros when you buy it for your camera. The lens allows for projection of 4K images up to 300 inches and with the Leica Image Optimization engine you can tweak the colors and contrast for a natural image and pure black levels.
Speakers and wireless streaming
The two built-in 10-watt speakers, equipped with DTS Virtual:X, should provide a nice sound if you do not connect the device to your home cinema set. There are plenty of options for this, with the on-board HDMI, USB and LAN ports.
You can also work wirelessly with the new Leica projector, because there is support for Apple Play, Bluetooth and WiFi. In addition, you can effortlessly stream content from Netflix, Amazon Prime or Disney+ to the projector thanks to its integrated Vidaa smart function.
