Chinese gadget brand OnePlus has announced its new smartphone Nord 4. The new mid-range device is slightly more expensive than its predecessor, but also has several improvements.
After Samsung, which presented its new gadgets last week, it is now OnePlus’ turn. The Chinese brand today unveiled, among other things, a new mid-range smartphone. The Nord 4 has a metal casing and is slightly thinner than its predecessors at almost 8 millimeters. In addition, you can of course expect 5G and the chip is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3.
Six years of updates
The device will once again run on OxygenOS, OnePlus’ Android skin, and will reportedly receive software updates for a whopping six years. That’s just one year less than Google promises for updates on its Pixel phones. That means you can update the device until 2030. This is the biggest update promise OnePlus has made to date. In addition, you can already count on several AI tools in terms of software, including a tool to remove objects from photos.
Although you can’t swim with the device, it can take quite a bit. For example, it has an IP65 certification, which makes it resistant to dust and splashes. Thanks to AquaTouch you can even operate the touchscreen in the rain – very handy in the Netherlands. Furthermore, the device offers the well-known slider on the side, with which you can quickly switch between vibrate or silent mode.
Cameras and battery
The 6.74-inch screen is once again an OLED display, but otherwise nothing has changed compared to the previous versions. For shooting standard photos, the Nord 4 offers a 50-megapixel camera that also has optical image stabilization. Although the model no longer has a macro lens, you get an 8-megapixel ultra-wide angle camera instead.
In addition, you can count on a resolution of 2,772 x 1,240 pixels in combination with a refresh rate of 120Hz.
The battery has received a slight upgrade, now offering a capacity of 5,500mAh and can be charged at a whopping 100W, provided you use a cable that supports the brand’s SuperVOOC tech.
Price and availability
The Nord 4 starts at €499, which means it’s about €50 more expensive than its predecessor. However, for that, you get a device with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Pay €100 more and you’ll get double those specs.
In terms of color, you have the choice of three options: green, black or white. The OnePlus Nord 4 is available for sale in the Netherlands from August 8.
At the same time, OnePlus announced three other products today: the OnePlus Pad 2 tablet, the Watch 2R smartwatch and the Nord Buds 3 Pro earphones. The Pad 2 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip and a 12.1-inch display. The tablet also comes with a stylus with 16,000 pressure levels and haptic feedback. The OnePlus Pad 2 will be available from August 1 and will cost 549 euros.
The Watch 2R is the aluminum version of the OnePlus Watch 2, which was released earlier this year and has a stainless steel casing. This makes the 2R a quarter lighter. The new smartwatch does not have sapphire glass like the Watch 2, but a slightly less hard type of glass. Like the Watch 2, the 2R has a 1.43-inch AMOLED screen, is waterproof (IP68) and has a battery life of 12 days. The new smartwatch is now available for 279 euros.
The new OnePlus earbuds Nord Buds 3 Pro have active noise cancellation and an IP55 water resistance. They have a battery life of 44 hours and are available immediately for 79 euros.
