Smart’s new electric SUV to be unveiled soon
Under the control of the Chinese giant Geely, Smart is in the process of renewing its range: after the Smart #1 and Smart #3, here comes the Smart #5and SUV compact familial which will aim to compete with the Peugeot e-5008 and other Renault Scénic E-Tech in our region.
According to the Sino-German manufacturer, this new model has been designed as a “contemporary adventurer”, while retaining the comfort and performance of a premium electric SUV. The model will be presented at thean event to be held in Australiato pay tribute to Australian road trip culture, while highlighting the brand’s commitment to the Australian market, where it made its official return this year. The Smart #1 and #3 are also launching at the same time in the Australian market.

Smart #5: What we already know
According to the first information revealed by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Smart #5 should offer several versions, which will be distinguished by their style but also by their electric motorization: four power levels will be offered, with 335, 358, 579 and 638 horsepower on the most powerful Brabus version.
The Smart #5 will extend over 4,705 meters long1.92 meters wide and 1.705 meters high, all with a wheelbase of 2.90 meters. It will offer 5 seats, and will weigh up to 2,450 kg on the most powerful version of 638 horsepower. Customization options will include 18 to 21-inch rims, as well as several body colors, including gray, white and red.
Several battery capacities will also be available, with the most upscale version having a 100 kWh batterywhich should offer no less than 700 km autonomy according to the Chinese CLTC cycle, or approximately 560 km according to the WLTP cycle. Thanks to an 800 V architecture, it will be compatible with ultra-fast charging stations, allowing it to be recharged at a record speed of approximately 15 minutes, to go from 20% to 80% capacity.
The Smart #5 will be presented on August 28, 2024and marketed in Europe bynext year.
