Indeed, various scientific studies have highlighted its protective effect against cardiovascular diseases, cancer and even Alzheimer’s disease.
However, a question remains: how to determine the best olive oil among the many brands available in stores? Which olive oil offers the most health benefits and what criteria should you use to make your choice?
To guide us, the 60 Million Consumers team conducted a detailed study. In total, the experts analyzed 24 extra virgin olive oils (including 11 organic) purchased at the end of 2022. The products were evaluated not only on their flavor, but also on health criteria: presence of pollutants, fatty acid composition , adding additives…
The verdict? The best would be Primadonna brand extra virgin olive oil.
The verdict is surprising: according to 60 Million consumersthe best olive oil would beextra virgin olive oil from the Primadonna brand, sold at Lidl at the price of 6.99 euros. “In addition to its very reasonable price, this oil stands out thanks to its cleanliness, the only one in the panel to contain no pollutants. Balanced and with a light fruitiness, it has all the qualities of an oil for daily use.” specify the experts.
The organic version is less well rated
Attention ! Do not confuse Primadonna extra virgin olive oil (voted “best olive oil” by 60 Million consumerstherefore) with Primadonna organic extra virgin olive oil. The latter was rated less well by the consumer association UFC-Que-Choisir in the summer of 2023… but on a taste criterion only.
Don’t have a Lidl store near you? In the ranking of 60 Million consumerstwo other olive oils stood out – and these are sold at Carrefour. These are olive oil from Provence, Reflets de France AOP and organic Monini Classico olive oil.
