HMD will be launching more affordable smartphones next year and the manufacturer will continue to build on what Nokia has achieved: the HMD XR22 is coming.
‘HMD XR22 will succeed Nokia XR21 in 2025’
The XR22 is HMD’s next affordable smartphone, expected to launch in 2025. It is the successor to the robust XR21 that was released in 2023 and still falls under the Nokia brand name. HMD does not seem to be planning to scrap the XR series, but is sticking its own logo on it for the first time. The first specifications have appeared online.
The XR22 can take a beating and this is also evident from the information shared. The phone is fully protected against dust and water with a certification. The housing also has a MIL-STD-810H certificate. This means it can survive harder bumps and falls from greater heights than most phones.
The screen is also better protected against scratches, thanks to a layer of Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The smartphone also has a promising OLED screen with full HD resolution and 120Hz refresh rate for smooth images. The brightness has also been improved to a maximum of 1200 nits, making the phone usable in bright sunlight.
Inside, the HMD There is 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage space as standard. The latter can be expanded to 512GB with a micro SD card.
The battery of the XR22 is growing and goes from a 4800 mAh battery on the XR21 to a 5520 mAh one. This charges at a speed of 33 watts. The cameras on the back have also been improved. In addition to the same 64 megapixel main camera and 8 megapixel wide-angle lens, there is also an 8 megapixel night camera on board. The selfie camera goes from 16 megapixels to 50 megapixels.
‘HMD XR22 may appear in May’
Overall, HMD brings nice updates to the XR22. It is not yet known when exactly the smartphone will be launched and at what price. The Nokia XR21 was released in May 2023 with a suggested retail price of 599 euros.
