This SUV, very popular in Europe, will become eligible for the ecological bonus

The Volvo EX30 will soon become eligible for the ecological bonus by changing its assembly location. Currently produced in China, the SUV will join the assembly lines in Ghent, Belgium. Enough to avoid at the same time the customs surcharge imposed by the European Union.

After 10 years without a compact model, Volvo returned to the category at the end of 2023 with the EX30. A 4.23 meter long SUV with a fairly refined design, slightly further from the rest of the range, but which does not break the codes of the Swedish manufacturer either. We obviously find the famous projectors, like Thor’s hammer.

The envelope is beautiful, however an important characteristic spoils the picture: its place of assembly. In fact, it is currently produced in China! Enough to deprive the EX30 of the ecological bonus (from €2,000 to €4,000 depending on income), and force Volvo to pay the famous customs surcharge imposed by the European Union for vehicles coming from the Middle Kingdom ( not just Chinese brands). In the case of Volvo, which belongs to the Chinese group Geely, this additional customs duty amounts to 18.8%.

The Volvo EX30 soon eligible for the bonus

History (soon) old, since the Volvo EX30s intended for the European market will now be assembled on the Old Continent, at the Ghent factory in Belgium. A promise announced by the brand at the launch of the modeland which will be effective during the month of April 2025, report our colleagues from L’argus.

The SUV will therefore join its big brothers the EX40 and EC40 on the production lines. As noted Frandroid in its columns, Volvo is currently awaiting the green light from the Environment and Energy Management Agency (ADEME).

Two versions of the SUV affected

To benefit from state aid, the vehicle purchased must of course have a maximum price of €47,000. In the case of the Volvo EX30, two versions display a price lower than this threshold: Start and Plus, which start at €39,100 and €42,050 respectively. On the other hand, the Plus model in its all-wheel drive variant cannot claim the bonus, since it is sold from €50,850.

This is enough to allow the SUV to spread more easily in France (5,143 copies sold) and to exceed 100,000 registrations in total (98,065).
