This ugly piece of crumpled sheet metal was paid 23,000 euros

What you see in these photos is part of the Ferrari 275 GTS, which was produced between 1964 and 1966 in exactly 200 examples. This part, which you could sell as scrap metal for a maximum of a hundred euros, has now found a new buyer at the auction “The Junkyard: The Rudi Klein Collection” for an impressive 23,000 euros!

However, that amount may not be too much given the car’s rarity and the value that the few remaining examples could achieve. The piece of scrap metal is from a Ferrari 275 GTS delivered to the US with chassis number 7921 that used to be red and black. It was originally sold by Luigi Chinetti Motors to a certain Mr. Harris, and reportedly ended up in Rudy Klein’s large “scrap metal” collection after being purchased by this American scrap dealer in the 1990s. Today, not much remains of this classic convertible, only a partial body and bodywork, without the drivetrain and any other important parts, according to Jutarnji.hr.

The Ferrari 275 GTS is actually a convertible version of the 275 GTB, designed by Pininfarina and introduced at the 1964 Paris Motor Show with a 3.3-liter V12 engine producing 260 hp. It reached a top speed of 240 km/h. So, this is a car that turned 60 years old this year, and examples in good condition are sold at auctions for almost 2 million euros.

In relation to that amount, 23,000 euros seems “trivial”, but it would hardly be profitable to restore what is left of the car, even if a master could be found who would be able to do it and all the necessary parts. But as a decorative element on someone’s property, it could have a chance for a “new life”.
