‘This unknown brand dethrones Samsung’s screens’

Smartphone manufacturer Nubia is taking on Samsung and is giving its upcoming Z70 Ultra a screen that you will be proud of. You can expect this.

‘Nubia Z70 Ultra will be a Samsung killer’

Real ones power users prefer to purchase a smartphone with the very best specifications. These are users who choose a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, Google Pixel 9 Pro XL or the Nubia Z70 Ultra that will be released later this month. The phone has not yet been unveiled, but the relatively unknown manufacturer is already sharing the specifications of the screen. And they are very impressive.

With a 6.85-inch display, the Z70 Ultra is a big boy. According to the manufacturer, the screen edges are almost the thinnest on the market, with a thickness of 1.25 millimeters. The display covers about 95 percent of the front. With the S24 Ultra this is less than 90 percent with edges of 2 millimeters.

The eye-catching reader also sees that the selfie camera seems to be missing. Nubia has been incorporating the front camera under the screen for some time now and is now making improvements in that area as well. The part of the screen that covers the selfie camera will have a higher pixel density of 430 ppi, which should make the camera better hidden.

Nubia also produces an impressive screen in terms of brightness. The display has a peak brightness of 2000 nits. This means it cannot match the 2600 nits of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, but it is still incredibly bright.

The screen refresh rate goes up to 144Hz, which is higher than the 120Hz on most smartphones. This should make games and other animations look smoother.

Nubia leaves something to be desired

Nubia is a sub-brand of ZTE. This Chinese smartphone manufacturer is best known for its RedMagic gaming smartphones. They also have impressive specifications on paper. We previously tested the RedMagic 9 Pro and were quite impressed.

But while ZTE smartphones excel enormously in specifications, the update policy and availability are disappointing. The brand’s smartphones are only available through the European webshop, where many Dutch consumers buy their smartphones from Dutch providers.

In terms of update policy, ZTE limits itself to a maximum of two years. That’s a real one for many dealbreaker. Whether ZTE and Nubia approach things differently with the Z70 Ulta remains a matter of waiting. The smartphone will be announced on November 21.
