The Latgale Central Library received support from the State Cultural Capital Fund in the amount of 1,380 euros for the implementation of the 5th round of the long-term project “Meet in the library! Children’s writers in Daugavpils”.
As part of the project, from January to September 2025, meetings with six authors of children’s and youth books beloved by readers will be held in Daugavpils public libraries – Zane Zustoy, Inese Walter, Signe Viškoi, Karlis Verdins, Louise Pastore And Lauris Gundars.
Project “Meet me at the library! Children’s writers in Daugavpils” started in 2019. Its continuation will give an opportunity to an ever wider circle of Daugavpils residents to get acquainted with popular poets and writers of Latvian children’s and youth books. Getting to know each other will stimulate interest in reading, creative pursuits, and inspire problem solving and collaboration.
The goal of the project is to popularize reading traditions and cultural values in literature, while continuing to introduce Daugavpils residents to the latest authors of Latvian children’s and youth books and their works of art, including those from the collection of the National Library of Latvia’s reading promotion program “Children’s, Youth and Parents’ Jury 2024”. During the meetings, children and young people will become more familiar with the author’s work and the process of creating literature. It will also create an environment that inspires creativity, facilitated by dialogue between readers and book authors.
The first literary meeting will be organized on January 24, when Inese Valtere, writer, head of creative classes and author of the book “Family Tales” in 4 parts, will visit the Family Digital Activity Center of the LCB. The author teaches creative storytelling lessons for children, “From a Story to a Book,” where he reveals the secrets of creating a book and allows you to experience the exciting joy of creating a fairy tale. During the literary meeting there will be an opportunity to discuss what we have read, seen and felt in the author’s works.
