Eight women have been killed at the hands of husbands, ex-spouses and boyfriends since the beginning of 2024. And thousands have been called to 1522, with just as many cases of family abuse on the prosecutor’s table.

Eight women who lost their lives in a violent way, at the hands of their husbands or ex-partners, often at the culmination of months or years of physical and psychological harassment. Not to mention the numerous cases of family abuse and rapewith thousands of cases under the attention of the prosecutor’s office, as reported by la Repubblica. But the undeclared, those who are not reported and who however hide in many families, are many more.
Rosa D’Ascenzo, Nicoletta Zomparelli, Renée Amato, Li Xuemei, Cristiane Angelina Soares De Souza, Manuela Petrangeli, Anna Rita Morelli, Lucia Felici, Camelia Ion: these are the names of the women killed in 2024. Rosa D’Ascenzo was the first victim of femicide in 2024 in Italy: killed on New Year’s Eve by her husband, who then faked a domestic accident. He told the police that the 70-year-old had fallen down the stairs, but the wounds on her body told another truth. On February 13, Nicoletta Zomparelli and Renée Amato were killed at the hands of Christian Sodano, a marshal of the Guardia di Finanza who wanted to take revenge on his ex-girlfriend who had left him. He then killed his mother and sister, also trying to kill Desyrée, who however managed to escape. A month later, 37-year-old Li Xuemei was killed by her husband, stabbed at the height of an argument. He tried to flee, but was arrested shortly after by the police.
Cristiane Angelina Soares De Souza was 46 years old, and was killed by her partner in Ostia, where they lived. Manuela Petrangeli, however, was killed by her ex with rifle shots: the man, Gianluca Molinaro, had been persecuting her for some time. With a violent past, he had also been reported by his ex-wife for mistreatment. He is now in prison on charges of voluntary manslaughter. Others in August two feminicides: 73 year old Anna Rita Morelli, killed by her husband, and 75 year old Lucia Felici, also killed by her husband. Camelia Ion, however, was killed at the end of October by her ex-partner, Lucian Tuduran: the man had the electronic bracelet, but since the victim did not have his cell phone with him, the alarm that would have allowed her to know did not go off of the 41-year-old’s arrival.
