Thousands of protesters in Barcelona demand to stop Israel’s “genocide” in Palestine

Thousands of people demonstrated this Sunday in the center of Barcelona to demand that the “genocide” in Palestine stop and to demand that the Government break relations with Israel and not sell it weapons.

Under the motto “Let’s stop the genocide in Palestine. Enough of the arms trade with Israel”, the demonstration is part of the wave of mobilizations called this weekend around the world coinciding with the first anniversary of the Hamas attack against Israel and the beginning of the Israeli military offensive in Gaza.

In the march, which began in the Jardinets de Gràcia and ended in Plaza Catalunya, the protesters, many of them carrying Palestinian flags or dressed in the traditional kufiya scarf, chanted slogans such as “Boycott Israel,” “Where There are, unseen, the sanctions against Israel”, “Israel murders, Europe sponsors”, “Generalitat, prou complicitat” or “It is not a war, it is a genocide”.

The organizers of the protest, called by the Palestinian Community in Catalonia, the Solidarity Network against the Occupation of Palestine and the “Enough Complicity with Israel” platform, demand an end to the sale of weapons to Israel and that the country be held accountable for their “crimes”.

The protest has also been directed against the Generalitat, which the protesters ask to stop “promoting” the arms trade with Israel.

The demonstration was attended by, among others, the Comuns-Sumar MEP Jaume Asens and the CUP member of Parliament Laure Vega, as well as the historic leader of ERC David Minoves, president of the Escarré International Center for Ethnic and National Minorities ( CIEMEN).

Also participating in the protest are the general secretaries of the UGT and CCOO unions in Catalonia, Camil Ros and Javier Pacecho, the former Anti-Corruption Prosecutor Carlos Jiménez Villarejo and representatives of the Lebanese and Palestinian community in Barcelona.
