Threads displays various feeds on the home screen

Switching back and forth between feeds becomes much easier on Threads, while the platform copies Bluesky’s Starter Pack feature for new users.

The next major social app is set to be Threads – and there are already almost 300 million monthly active users. That’s significantly more than Bluesky, another X competitor that is currently experiencing strong growth but has only just reached 20 million monthly active users. Meanwhile, Threads has new features to offer almost weekly for its numerous users. Most recently, new ranking rules were set up in favor of followed accounts, the video experience and search were optimized and custom feeds were introduced. In addition, users can now select their favorite feed as the default option as a test. In addition to the For You Feed, the Following Feed has been available since midsummer 2023. Both are available alongside the custom feed as options that users will be able to swipe between even more easily in the future.

Small but important design update for Threads Feeds

Platform boss Adam Mosseri explains in a post on Threads that users can now see their various feeds on the home screen. This innovation is already active on Android and will be introduced on iOS in the coming days. We can also see the feeds on the home screen when we scroll, although we don’t see any custom feeds yet.

With this new feature, users can easily switch between feeds. According to Mosseri, this could make overall app navigation much easier.

A feature that is currently being developed at Threads and is very reminiscent of Bluesky may also help in the future. Tech expert Chris Messina has integrated a function reminiscent of Bluesky’s starter packs as an experiment, in which users put together a list of interesting accounts for specific subject areas. On Bluesky, users can take advantage of Starter Packs, where accounts put together lists of other accounts that might be of interest to new users in specific contexts and that they might follow directly. On Bluesky The function has been available since June 2024.

Threads has not yet rolled out the feature comprehensively. Many new users of the platform also follow accounts that they already follow on the closely linked Instagram platform. However, this Starter Pack feature could save them some work, while creators of such packs could ensure more visibility for colleagues, relevant media and the like by integrating linked accounts.
