A field for Threads Feed Ads was discovered in Meta Ads reporting. Is the advertising on the platform coming sooner than expected?
There has been speculation for months about the introduction of advertising on Meta’s Threads platform. After all, the social media group recently announced that there are now over 200 million monthly active users on the text-based medium. Advertising monetization is therefore a good option, while advertisers are also likely to show a lot of interest in the inventory in this area of the Meta cosmos. In August, however, Meta denied having a timeline for ads on Threads or even testing ads there. Now, however, a clear indication of a possible timely rollout has appeared directly in Meta’s advertising management.

Threads Ads in 2024 after all?
The current Threads development points to an integration of advertising. Instagram boss has a few future plans Adam Mosseri in early summer 2024 in Interview with Casey Newton on Platformer discussed. He also explained that he would like more independence from Instagram for the text-based platform.
(…) My hope is that Threads gets more independent over time. It’s still deeply integrated with Instagram — you can sign in with the same account, you can automatically follow the same accounts, and we show Threads content in Instagram. But over time, I want it to be more and more independent. We’re working on things like Threads-only accounts and data separation. As we iterate on the product, it’s gonna differentiate more and more. There’s a strong correlation between people who curate their Threads graph and people will stick around with Threads. It’s nice that you can just follow all the same accounts to get started. But if you just do that, it doesn’t usually seem to be enough. So I do think the graphs will differentiate more and more over time as well (…).
Meanwhile, the addition that Threads is an Instagram app is no longer visible in the app stores. To Bloomberg Mosseri also stated that the platform is hoping for ads integration “sooner rather than later.” However, they are still waiting for the right opportunity. In the spring, there was already speculation that ads for the app would come in 2024. A member of the press team explained to Digiday at that time:
Since our priority is to build consumer value first and foremost, there are no ads or monetization features currently on Threads. At this time, we encourage businesses to experiment with Threads as part of their organic social strategy where it makes sense.
However, Meta Advertisers are said to have been promised that they will be able to place ads on threads as late as 2024. This information has not yet been confirmed. And Meta itself stated in August via Instagram spokesperson Alec Booker an:
We’re not testing ads in Threads at this time, and there is no immediate timeline for monetization.
Nevertheless, there are concrete indications of an advertising launch in the near future. App researcher Alessandro Paluzzi discovered sponsored labels in the app’s code some time ago.

Shortly afterwards, social media expert Bram Van der Hallen found an unmistakable reference in the Meta Ads reporting. There he was able to access the Threads Feed Ads option – although this did not yet allow placement on the platform.

In a LinkedIn Post he explained his discovery and wrote, among other things:
(…). A new ‚Threads Feed‘ placement would mean that advertisers can show ads in the Threads feed itself, right between organic posts. How the creative type would look and which options it would feature is to be seen, but I assume it would be similar to how ads are shown in the X (Twitter) feed (…).
We can now wait with bated breath to see whether Meta will actually advertise Threads in 2024. At Meta Connect on September 25 and 26, there would be an opportunity to provide information about corresponding plans. This would fit with the fact that Meta recently provided Insights as a performance check for users for Threads.
