Threads: Looks like it’s getting ready to bring Community Groups

The Threads is gearing up to add new features as reports indicate that it is set to get support for community groups in the future.

Threads was first launched by Meta as a social media platform through Instagram, aiming to offer users an alternative to X.

Despite being derived from Instagram, it lacks many of its features as it focuses more on speech.

Recently, Threads got the ability to tag posts with location from Instagram. If it eventually gets the community groups, the platform will get a feature that Instagram doesn’t even have.

Groups are very useful in helping you find and interact with people with similar tastes and interests as you. For example, a community can be created for a show or movie, for a football team or any hobby.

Facebook and X support community groups, and even messaging apps like WhatsApp and Telegram offer the feature.

The Threads app is said to work similarly, but may be called “Loops”. One of Threads’ early adopters, Chris Messina, spotted hints about this feature hidden in the app’s code.

There are reportedly lines of code that address the ability to join, leave, and rename communities. An anonymous source confirmed to TechCrunch that Threads developers are working on the feature. However, it seems that the project is in the early stages of development and has not yet started testing.

Also, tipster Alessandro Paluzzi was able to give a look at the new “Loops” shortcut in a post, while another image shows that you will likely be able to associate Loops with tags, making them easier for users to discover.
