Amazon has updated the Kindle Paperwhite e-book reader series after 3 years, and the 5th generation model will immediately be released in three versions on October 27.
An important change compared to its predecessor is that the diagonal of the display, which still has a pixel density of 300 PPI, has increased from 6 to 6.8″, and the maximum brightness of the backlight has increased by 10%. Also an innovation related to the display, the books can now be read with white letters on a black background, and the color temperature parameterizations familiar from the manufacturer’s higher-end e-book readers have also been included, which can be useful, for example, at night in terms of protecting our eyes.
The device, which boasts an IPX8 protection level and a USB Type-C charging port, also has newer hardware, which results in faster operation, for example, the page turning speed has increased by 20%, but the operating time has also improved, the new Kindle can last ten weeks without charging instead of six .
In the case of the $140 basic model, we can manage a total of 8 GB of built-in storage, but for those who would not like this, they can also choose the $190 Signature version with 32 GB of storage, a light sensor and the possibility of Qi charging. The third version, named Kid, intended for children, also has 8 GB of memory, but this version already supports Bluetooth audio transmission, the Internet connection has been removed (so that children cannot accidentally buy expensive books), and we also get extras such as a protective case, a 1-year Amazon Kids+ subscription, and a 2-year warranty against breakage, all for $160.
