Three proven techniques that will help you fall asleep quickly

People who can fall asleep quickly don’t know how lucky they are. In fact, many people need half an hour to fall asleep.

According to research Get Laid Bedsone in five people in the UK take up to two or three hours to fall asleep after going to bed.

Those who have the habit of reading before going to bed tend to fall asleep quickly and have quality sleep – the same research reveals.

Get Laid Beds asked sleep expert Dr. Daisy May what techniques work to help you fall asleep fast—and well.

There is no one reason behind these very different times, so much so that techniques for falling asleep faster usually focus on reducing stress before bed and inducing a calm and relaxed mental and physical state.

But there are some psychological tricks that bring great results and allow you to fall asleep quickly.

There is a term that describes this psychological technique: “paradoxical intention”. Basically, you just have to get comfortable in bed and, keeping your eyes open, repeat to yourself “Don’t sleep” or “I can’t fall asleep.” Your eyelids will start to feel heavy and you will quickly fall asleep. Seeing is believing.

To do this exercise, you will need to place your tongue on the upper palate, just behind the teeth. Then blow the air out of your mouth. Then close your mouth, inhale through your nose for 4 seconds, hold your breath for 7 seconds and exhale through your mouth (always with your tongue resting on the upper palate) for 8 seconds. Repeat the whole process until you fall asleep.

Once in bed, repeat the whole day starting from that moment and working backwards. You brushed your teeth, put on your pajamas, watched a movie, had dinner, took the tram home and so on until you woke up. This effort will free your mind from any thoughts or worries and lead you to a well-deserved sleep.
