throwing paper bombs and smoke bombs at the police

The demonstration in the center despite the ‘no’ from the police headquarters, on the occasion of the first anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel, which occurred on 7 October 2023, stopped in front of the RAI offices. That’s about 4/500 pro-Palestine activists who marched this evening in the center of Torinodespite the prescription of the local police headquarters, which on Saturday recommended not to hold demonstrations on the occasion of the first anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel, which occurred on 7 October 2023.

The demonstration, in which several high school and university students also took part, started from Piazza Castello, along Via Po in the direction of Piazza Vittorio Veneto, and then stopped under the Rai headquarterswhere one exploded letter bombas well as some smoke bombs.

Some of the protesters shouted “Shame! Shame!” before throwing fruit against the police mobile unit. Some protesters then daubed the entrance to the Rai Auditorium with writings ‘Free Lebanon’ and ‘Italy is an accomplice’. There were also signs against Prime Minister Meloni. In one of these you can read the words “terrorist, massacre” under the photo of the Prime Minister.

“They wanted to stop us, in fact, they didn’t even want us, but today we are saying it clearly: Turin knows which side to take and is taking back the city. Today Turin stands alongside the Palestinian people and their resistance”, said a speaker into the microphone, referring to the warning from the police, who considered today’s date “strongly symbolic as it coincides with the massacre committed against the Israeli population”. For this reason, “it cannot be ruled out that demonstrators could be induced to carry out actions that are harmful and contrary to public order and safety”.

However, around 200 people, including members of the Jewish community and others present as a sign of solidarity, gathered at the same time to commemorate the massacre of 7 October in front of the synagogue in Piazzetta Primo Levi.
