On the digital pages of The Information, a publication is hosted that describes how Samsung and OpenAI are in talks to form a partnership and potentially integrate ChatGPT into Samsung’s Galaxy AI services.
From now on, Samsung uses its own LLM and Google’s Gemini AI to power its Galaxy AI features. It will be interesting to see how ChatGPT fits into all of this.
For example, Apple leverages OpenAI’s ChatGPT for its own Apple Intelligence service, but only when device models are insufficient for the task. That’s when the system asks ChatGPT for help.
We could see a similar implementation in Galaxy AI or use ChatGPT’s service altogether. The report says the two companies are in the early stages of negotiations, so it’s early to speculate.
OpenAI is becoming increasingly competitive against Google with the announcement of its “Search” service, and is now trying to grab Google’s long-term partners like Samsung. The same report claims that OpenAI is even working in a browser supported by ChatGPT. The company has already hired developers who have worked on Chrome.
