The Tinder is one of the most popular dating apps and it was assumed that sooner or later we would see more artificial intelligence functions to enter the platform. As it became known in the last few days, Tinder is trying to put an end to the “nightmare” of choosing the right profile photos. The new function Photo Selector uses AI to browse through the images, selecting those most likely to receive the coveted right swipe.
In case you don’t know, Tinder uses a unique “swipe” mechanism to browse profiles. Users swipe right if they like a profile and swipe left if they don’t. If two users swipe right on each other, then a match is created and they can start chatting.
The tool is in testing phase since August last year and it’s finally ready for prime time. Photo Selector works by automatically browsing your smartphone’s entire camera roll and, using AI algorithms, selects the hottest photos.
If you want to try the function at some point in the future – it is not yet available in Greece – you must first to pose for a selfie and give the system access to the camera to start. AI uses this selfie to find other photos and presents you with a selection of your best and brightest shots. Photo Selector will be available to US customers later this month, with a global rollout coming sometime during the summer.
Tinder has become hugely popular worldwide and has changed the way people meet and date. However, it has also received criticism, mainly due to issues such as the superficial nature of the platform and the security issues associated with online dating. It has greatly influenced the dating culture, especially among the younger generations. It has made dating more immediate and accessible, but at the same time it has sparked debates about the quality of relationships formed through the platform and the growing influence of social media on interpersonal relationships.
