Today, Friday, is the hottest day of the episode of high temperatures that Catalonia is suffering from Thursday and until tomorrow, Saturday, and which could place the thermometers around 36º in Martorell. For this reason, the City Council recalls a series of recommendations in order to combat it. Hydrating well, looking for shade and climate shelters and avoiding exercise in peak heat are the main tips.
It is advisable to avoid going outside during the hottest hours and to do intense physical activities. In case it is unavoidable, it is recommended to wear a cap or hat, light cotton clothes and light colors, walk in the shaded areas. On the Rambla de Pep Ventura you can walk under the awnings installed in its central part, which help mitigate the temperature and the maximum solar action.
One of the options to combat the heat is climate shelters and look for the one closest to home. They are the facilities where you can enjoy a pleasant temperature. In Martorell, the Francesc Pujols Library, the Esplais de la Gent Gran de La Vila and Buenos Aires, the Cultural Center, the Círcol, the lobby of the La Vila Sports Complex and the CIES Municipal Summer Pool are climate shelters.
With regard to meals, it is recommended to eat light meals and avoid very hot or high-calorie foods, eat foods rich in water, drink water and juices throughout the day and on a regular basis, even if you are not thirsty and drink alcoholic beverages.
In a peak heat episode, it’s important to look after the most vulnerable, such as the elderly and children, especially those over 75 and under 4 and people with chronic illnesses, mental illnesses, disabilities or vulnerable situations , and keep in daily contact with it. We also need to take care of our pets and provide them with water, a cool place and avoid taking them out for a walk in the middle of the day.
