Among the residents of our Humanitarian Bridge in the Raška region, a special place is occupied by the poor family of Slobodan Bandović from the village of Gradac on Pešter, which our readers and other good people have been continuously helping for more than a decade.
My face is dull
After our texts and calls to good people to help them, the Bandovics received a goat, a cow, several humanitarian packages and many donations that enabled them to feed, clothe and train, keep warm, buy medicine and treat their now deceased son Radiša, who was born with numerous anomalies , who died in October last year. After several months of collecting the necessary money, five years ago our readers built and furnished a new house for them, in which more than 20,000 euros were invested.
Although their lives, especially after moving in at the end of last year, have changed significantly for the better, the head of the family Slobodan, a day laborer from Pešter, his wife Stanka, Maja Marija and children Stefan, Petar and Milica are still severely poor and dependent on help good people, folk kitchens in Sjenica and neighbors from Pešter always ready to help them.
Our reader Zvonko Sarajlija from Germany, a native of Pljavalje in Montenegro, made sure that the life of this family would be at least a little better during the coming days and months. Noble Zvonko personally came to the newsroom.
He left 500 euros to “Vesta” and the Bandovićs, whose struggles he has followed for years, the donation was handed over to them a few days ago in Novi Pazar, Slobodan came to collect the money as he had some other business in the town on Raška.
We got used to suffering, starving, freezing and suffering everything and anything for years, now he was getting used to sadness, Radiša’s death is our big wound that we can never get over, I don’t know what we did to God to punish us so cruelly – says Slobodan who feeds his family by digging canals and graves for the dead on Pešter, loading coal in a nearby mine and doing other difficult jobs.
Thank heaven
In the summer and there is some work, it is not easy to dig all day at 40 degrees, and I somehow got used to it, it is more difficult in the winter when there is no possibility for any income, and the winters in Pešter are long and icy like in Siberia, then we are forced to for help (meal) we turn to the national kitchen in Sjenica and to good people around the world, thank you, they helped us many times, they saved us whenever we were in trouble, this donation from the good Zvonka from Pljevalje is also our salvation, it is a great help , for 500 euros, I would have to pickpocket for 15 days – adds this poor mountaineer from Pešter, with a request that we convey great greetings and immense gratitude to the benefactor Zvonko and his family.
We wish them good health, happiness in life and we pray to God to protect them, I don’t know yet how we will spend the donation, we need to erect a monument to Radiša, Stefan and Petar are students and they will need a lot for school, Milica is still small. The electricity debt has also accumulated, Grandma Marija needs medicine, Stanka needs flour and groceries, and it is already time to prepare firewood for the winter – adds Slobodan.
Six years of fighting for Radiša
Little Radiša Bandović had developmental disabilities and numerous anomalies, he did not speak and was seriously neglected, only after the first articles in “Vesti” and donations from our readers did his more serious treatment begin, he was examined several times in Belgrade, and had several operations , and after persistent work with speech therapists, he also started to talk, so he started school and reached the fourth grade, death struck him suddenly, a few days before moving into a new house, which he was eagerly waiting for.
Electricity was cut for three years
The house for the Bandović family was roofed and ready for occupancy in less than a year, due to the electricity, Slobodan and his family moved in only after three years of waiting and begging the authorities in Sjenica who “couldn’t” provide them with a connection because the house is in the back of a cave, a gift from good people from all over the world, it was not built according to plan and did not have an urban planning permit.
