“Too good.” The employees of the Ministry are tricking the vacation to be longer

“Too good.” This is how Eesti Pank President Madis Müller has described the situation where Estonian officials use their holidays in pieces and only on working days. This means saving vacation days at the expense of the weekend.

“If you first take 14 days of vacation at once as required by law, but the remaining 21 days only on working days, the result is almost 6 weeks of vacation,” wrote Müller in X. “This is a very common approach.”

Äripäu’s observation shows that Müller is right. We based our analysis on the vacations of the officials of the State Budget Department of the Ministry of Finance, and it turned out that since the weekend is often not included in the vacation, the officials easily earn up to six additional days off a year.

Ironically, it is the officials of the State Budget Department of the Ministry of Finance who are responsible for the judicious use of public funds.
