Car owners anxiously follow the calendar: time keeps ticking towards the first of January. No, it’s not because you have to make New Year’s resolutions again, it’s because the car tax comes into force in Estonia on 01.01.2025. So many of us hoped that this tax would not come and turned a blind eye every time we saw a news story with such a headline. It doesn’t make sense anymore.
Very briefly – you have to withdraw money in two cases:
- 2 times a year annual fee according to the car’s CO2 component and weight, the base fee is added
- At the first change of ownership after 01.01.2025 or car at initial registrationalso consists of a CO2 component, a mass charge and a base charge
For older cars, the price is reduced by the age factor, so you may feel that it is not worth buying a new car next year. In fact, it is not! If you know how to follow the right numbers when choosing a car, you will discover that the annual tax on a new car can be surprisingly affordable.
New Skoda Octavia – annual fee only €50
50 € is the smallest possible annual fee, there is no way to pay less than that. However, at this price there is an annual tax on the new Octavia. How so?
The Škoda Octavia engine version 1.5 TSI ACT DSG m-Hybrid simply has such low CO2 emissions that this component of the annual tax is €0.
In addition, the Octavia is surprisingly light. It is not a small car, but the gross weight of this slim-line hatchback is less than two tons, which means that the annual tax for this component is also €0.
Indicators to monitor:
- CO2 heide 112 g/km
- Gross weight 1930 kg
For many Estonians, the Volkswagen Passat is the standard of passenger car quality. Passat is really roomy, but it is not bulky, which is uncomfortable to maneuver. The new Passat Variant has also received a design and cockpit update and is currently a hot item.
Volkswagen Passat Variant engine version 1.5 eTSI 110kW earns a reasonable annual tax price thanks to reasonable indicators:
- CO2 heide on 123 g/km
- The full weight is 2130 kg
This makes the annual fee €120, so it is worth looking at the new Passat.
New Skoda Kodiaq – annual fee only €143
Considering that the more mass a car has, the more annual tax you pay, it may seem that you have to forget about SUVs. It is not necessary if you choose a plug-in hybrid to keep C02 emissions as low as possible!
This is how you can get a really spacious (5 or 7-seater depending on the equipment) Škoda Kodiaq with a 1.5 TSI PHEV 150kW 6-DSG PLUG-IN engine at a surprisingly affordable annual fee: 143 euros! Not bad, considering that for such a small car you have to pay a hefty sum.
Indicators to monitor:
- CO2 emissions of only 8-12 g/km
- Gross weight 2431 kg
