Every month, a huge number of new games appear in the App Store for iOS and iPadOS devices. Below you will find a short, subjective review of the most interesting titles that debuted there in June 2024.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage
Assassin’s Creed Mirage is the latest installment in the Assassin’s Creed series, and is a return to its roots. Set in Baghdad in the ninth century AD, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla casts players in the role of Basim Ibn Ishaq, previously known from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. The iOS and iPadOS versions are a faithful port of the console and PC versions, with touchscreen controls and mobile-friendly graphics. The game can be played on iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, as well as iPads with M1 or newer chipsets.
Star Wars: Hunters
Star Wars: Hunters is an online action game set in the universe known from the Star Wars films, clearly inspired by such hits as Overwatch and Team Fortress 2. The gameplay here involves clashes between two four-person teams. Players cannot take on the roles of the heroes known from the films, but the characters available in the game, differing not only in appearance, but also in weaponry and special skills, clearly refer to them (among them we will find a masked bounty hunter, an imperial stormtrooper and a representative of the Wookiee race, to which Chewbacca, known from the films, belonged). The same applies to the maps on which we will fight, which are also inspired by locations known from the films.
Resident Evil 7
Resident Evil 7, originally released in 2017, was the first main installment in the series to feature first-person gameplay. Despite this major change, it was still a pretty successful return to its roots in many other ways, focusing on survival horror elements rather than the two previous installments, which placed a greater emphasis on action. The game stars Ethan Winters as he sets out to find his missing wife in a mysterious Louisiana mansion. The iOS version requires an iPhone 15 Pro or 15 Pro Max to play, while the iPadOS and macOS versions require devices with an M1 or newer chip.
The Case of the Golden Idol
The Case of the Golden Idol is a detective adventure game that combines retro style with a quite inventive and innovative approach to the issue of puzzles. In the game, we play the role of a detective dealing with a series of related murders that occurred over several decades. By investigating crime scenes and analyzing the clues found there, we obtain words that we then have to place in empty spaces in sentences, thus creating hypotheses about how the murder occurred. The iOS version, in addition to the basic edition of the game, includes both DLC expansions.
Skul: The Hero Slayer
Skul: The Hero Slayer is an arcade platformer with roguelike elements. In it, we play as a reanimated skeleton who sets out on a mission to save the demon king who has been kidnapped by a group of good heroes. During the journey, our character can collect various types of skulls, thanks to which he gains new special abilities. The iOS version differs from the original primarily in the control system, adapted to be operated using touch screens (however, it also offers support for external controllers).
LUNA The Shadow Dust
LUNA The Shadow Dust is a point & click adventure game that presents a rather classic approach to the genre. It tells the story of a young boy traveling through a mysterious, slightly surreal world in the company of a friendly monster. The entire story is told without the use of words. The game attracts attention primarily with its characteristic, hand-drawn graphics, thanks to which it resembles an interactive animated film.
