In cities like Miami that are known for their nightlife, you have to stand out in some way in the entertainment industry. Some locations focus on modernity with elegant, futuristic decor and laser lighting. However, The Sylvester has opted for a very successful retro formula: upholstered furniture, flamingo wallpaper and kitsch framed pictures on the walls. The place reminds us of an American porch in the mid-60s, with exquisite food and drinks and spectacular sound thanks to the E11EVEN Sound by DAS audio system.

As managing director Sean McCusker explains, The Sylvester has established itself as a meeting place for surrounding businesses since it opened five years ago. “It used to be called Bardot and was more of a nightclub. The sound system wasn’t suitable for the atmosphere we wanted to create. It didn’t attract any guests. If you struggle with your sound system every day, it’s time to replace it.”
For McCusker, the space itself is a challenge. “The venue is very long, with a long corridor, and the sound distribution was very uneven. There were dead zones where you couldn’t hear anything and others where people had to shout at each other.” The system also had to be versatile and adaptable to any situation. “During the day we have an audience that wants to have a casual conversation. At night the DJs come and the place is packed.”
A sound system for The Sylvester’s profile
McCusker turned to John Fiorito, DAS Audio’s national sales manager for hospitality and nightclubs, to design a sound system for The Sylvester’s new profile. The new system, supplied by Randy White of Washington Music Center and installed by 305AV of Miami, FL, consists of twelve E11EVEN Sound 10-inch ES-10 systems with four 18-inch ESBR218 dual subwoofers for bass response . Four ARTEC-326 two-way systems and two DECO-6-TB ceiling speakers cover the entrance and toilets. E11EVEN Sound EP amplifiers power the system and processing is done with a single DSP INTEGRAL-88 from DAS Audio.
Finding the right balance for a calm and comfortable atmosphere during happy hour as well as providing enough power and bass for night parties was a challenge that few can master. For McCusker, DAS Audio and E11EVEN Sound are among the few companies that can provide the power, versatility and performance required.
“People come here not just for the food and drinks, but also for the experience,” McCusker concludes. “They come to meet friends, meet people and have good memories. Music is an important part of the product we sell. It has to sound good in every part of the venue. We knew the reputation of E11EVEN Sound. That’s why DAS Audio was our first choice.”
