DAPURPACUID – This year’s Toyota Eco Youth (TEY) program has completed the socialization stage, since the 13th activity was launched or kicked off in April 2024.
At this stage, several Senior High Schools (SMA)/equivalent in 8 cities in Indonesia were visited to educate, monitor and explain the requirements for the proposals they would submit.
The socialization of the 13th TEY Competition has been delivered to more than 2,500 students (online and offline) in 221 schools in Jakarta, Balikpapan, Makassar, Papua, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, Bali, and Medan.
In this activity, TMMIN conveyed information about carbon reduction, the role of young people in protecting the earth, and provided examples of various real actions to save the earth that can be done around us.
Schools that have eco gallery facilities that consistently follow TEY competencies as a means of environmental learning are also visited by TMMIN.
After that, the next stage begins where each participant can submit project proposals and environmental improvement innovations as a real manifestation of action to protect the earth.
Later, TMMIN will select each participant’s proposal, project guidance, project implementation and mentoring, final judging, and close with the announcement of the winner.
Vice President Director of PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia, Bob Azam said, entering the era of energy transition, active participation and concern of the nation’s next generation towards environmental conditions, plays an important role in supporting Indonesia towards a carbon neutral future.
He explained that the socialization of the TEY program was not merely to invite high school students to participate in this competition. Most importantly, to spread the spirit of decarbonization action in Indonesia.
“The initiation of the young generation as the key to the sustainability of a green earth must be realized early on. So that it becomes a contribution to the acceleration of the Government’s target to reduce emissions optimally in 2030.
“In this case, emissions must be flat or no longer increase, so that the NZE target in 2060 can be achieved,” added Bob, in his official broadcast.
On the other hand, Henry Tanoto, Deputy President Director of PT Toyota Astra Motor, said that after the TEY socialization, it is hoped that it will increase the understanding and concern of young people towards carbon neutrality.
In this way, he continued, it can raise their enthusiasm to contribute with real actions that they can take to achieve carbon neutrality, and can even invite people around them.
“One way to do this is by participating in the TEY program so that it can be further developed with the guidance of experts,” concluded Henry.
For information, the TEY program was first launched in 2005, as a greening and environmental awareness movement competition created by Toyota Indonesia.
To date, the program has involved more than 1,700 high school/equivalent students from 34 provinces in Indonesia, with a total of nearly 4,000 proposals. (dpid/TH)
