Toyota is testing the GR Corolla at the Nurburgring and is preparing to bring it to Europe

With the GR86 coming to the end of its commercial life in the European market due to non-compliance with the EU’s new GSR2 safety regulations, it opens the way for a third performance model in Toyota’s range, following the GR Yaris and GR Supra.

Toyota has been at the Nurburgring with some GR Corolla prototypes, which likely indicates that the Japanese hot hatchback will soon make its European debut.

The GR Corolla is built at the same facility as the GR Yaris, in Motomachi, Japan, while the regular Corolla is built at the Burnaston plant in Derbyshire, England. In addition, the GR Corolla is already available in both left-hand drive (for North America) and right-hand drive (for Japan), making it easier to launch in Europe.

Last August, Toyota slightly refreshed the GR Corolla by adding an 8-speed automatic transmission to its options, with the MY2025 version of the Japanese hothatch getting both more torque and an improved cooling system.

In addition to the 8-speed automatic transmission, the car continues to be offered with a 6-speed manual transmission, with the automatic transmission equipped with a special radiator.

The torque of the three-cylinder 1,600 hp engine has increased from 370 Nm to 400 Nm, with the horsepower remaining at 300 horses. The car now has Torsen limited-slip differentials front and rear as standard, with the suspension also receiving a number of improvements.

The front bumper has also been redesigned to improve engine and brake cooling, with the Premium Plus version featuring a carbon roof and ventilated hood. Inside the MY2025 Corolla gets new trim, with the car wearing 18″ wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires.
