Toyota Land Cruiser, first impressions

A completely different new and old Land Cruiser

The international promotion of the long-awaited cool model Toyota Land Cruiser was held today in Morocco on the Atlas desert.

As they say in Toyota, the new Land Cruiser is a completely new model in everything, which returns this SUV to its roots.

At a time when the market is dominated by small petrol cars, hybrids and electrics, Toyota has sent all that to hell with the new Land Cruiser and decided not to experiment in this regard.

That mesmerizing sound of the 2.8-liter turbo diesel really brings people’s synapses back to their automotive roots, and because of this cruel maneuver against the EU’s barren administration, they deserved to declare the Land Cruiser the winner.

Of course, this is certainly not all that this model offers, which has been continuously produced for 73 years with close to 11 million units produced.

However, new times motivated Toyota to pretty much redo the new Land Cruiser. Not counting the all-new lighter chassis (+50% more torsion resistance), no less than 84 new components have been installed in this car. An impressive number that we can freely conclude that this is a well-known and yet new Land Cruiser.

As far as the design is concerned, compared to its predecessor, it seems gentler and more urban from the front and, unfortunately, completely chewed up from the back.

The interior is also completely different from the look of the dashboard and front console to the seats that are finally wider and extendable!!! The rear bench is fairly comfortable, with a core of light lateral amplitudes on a bad road.

The insulation of the cabin is excellent, and even of the chassis, so that in principle the harsh diesel sound does not reach the passengers, and all the events under the car are isolated by the excellent insulation of the chassis.

The 2.8 D-4D engine with its 205 hp and powerful 500 Nm of torque is significantly more generous and powerful than the one in the previous model.

The automatic eight-speed transmission is perfectly integrated with the drive elements on the open road and in off-road driving.

The drive is permanent on all wheels with the possibility of mechanical locking of the central Torsten differential as well as mechanical locking of the rear differential, while the front one is electronically regulated.

In practice, the new Land Cruiser offers a very interesting combination of pure mechanics and measured electronics, which is accompanied by a number of other functions, such as downhill driving control, which can now be adjusted to a speed of 5-30 km/h.

The new Land Cruiser shows exceptional convincingness in off-road driving and very pleasant dynamics on the open road.

Driving on local roads and off-road trails in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, I conclude without hesitation: The Land Cruiser’s driving characteristics on asphalt stood alongside the Land Rover Defender with slightly more modest performance (max. speed 170 kmh) while in off-road driving on hard terrain, it surpassed it by a good margin, even with the standard 20″ tires.

In essence, Toyota has managed the hardest part, making a convincing extreme SUV and a very comfortable car for long journeys.

The bright future of the new Land Cruiser is certain for those who are looking for modern and urban, with a return to the roots of a fearless off-road machine for those who do not find it difficult to step on the peaks of the Atlas in sheep’s wool.

Bonus Land Cruiser: enjoying diesel-powered freedom, in defiance of the polished metrosexuals of the sterile Brussels administration responsible for this chaos in the auto industry and thousands of lost jobs. Apparently, the attempt to corral us didn’t work. Long live the free LC!

Price from 75,000-95,000 euros.
