Is the Toyota RAV4 a good choice? The Toyota RAV4 has many advantages. This compact SUV offers a lot of space on the inside, making it ideal for family outings. It is also very comfortable. Long journeys are therefore no problem in this car. Despite its comfortable chassis, the RAV4 does not lean too far in bends. It may not be sporty, but it does drive very pleasantly. Another advantage of the Toyota RAV4 is that it is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense as standard. These technologies ensure that you can participate safely in traffic. Think of assistants such as pedestrian detection, lane assist and adaptive cruise control – at no extra cost. Furthermore, the RAV4 is a reliable car. This fits in well with the image that many people have of Toyota: solid and reliable. Although some drivers criticize the interior, such as the slow multimedia system, limited adjustment options of the front passenger seat and unlit buttons, the Toyota RAV4 remains a solid choice for those looking for a new car. Performance and comfort The new RAV4 is only available with petrol engines. The diesel engines from previous generations have disappeared. However, you can still choose from different drivetrains: the RAV4 was also delivered as a (plug-in) hybrid. The cars with a conventional drivetrain have a 2-liter petrol engine with 175 hp. These are all front-wheel drive and have a maximum towing weight of 2,000 kg braked. This is a lot more than the maximum towing weight of the plug-in hybrid, which can tow 1,500 kg braked. Do you opt for a hybrid? Then you can choose between the front-wheel drive variant with 218 hp or the 222 hp strong AWD (All Wheel Drive). All models with a hybrid drivetrain have a 2.5-liter petrol engine, which works in combination with an electric motor. If you opt for the variant with AWD, an extra electric motor is added that drives the rear wheels. Finally, you can also opt for the plug-in hybrid. This has, just like the other hybrid variant, a 2.5-liter petrol engine. The plug-in hybrids all have AWD and deliver 306 hp. The big advantage of a plug-in hybrid is the battery pack that you can charge with a plug. Once charged, you can drive a distance fully electrically. According to Toyota, you could theoretically drive 75 kilometers fully electrically with the RAV4. You can find more about the operation of such a plug-in hybrid here . In addition to the drivetrain, there is another important point: the comfort of the RAV4. It also performs very well in this area. For those who make a lot of long journeys or go out with the car every day, the RAV4 is definitely an excellent choice. Space and practicality The RAV4 offers what you expect from an SUV. It is nice and spacious on the inside, so you can easily sit five adults in the car. There is sufficient head and legroom in the back. Taking luggage is no problem with the boot capacity of 580 liters. The plug-in hybrids provide a fair amount of loading space with a capacity of 490 liters. If you don’t have any passengers in the back seat, you can choose to fold it down. This increases the boot space of the regular version to 1,690 liters. Reliability and problems The Toyota RAV4 is a very reliable car. The biggest problem the RAV4 faces is that it is very popular with thieves. In fact, it is even the most stolen car in the Netherlands. Curious about the experiences of other drivers? Then read the user reviews of the Toyota RAV4 XA50.
