Traffic resumes on Valea Oltului

The Minister of Transport announced that traffic on the Olt Valley will resume on August 9.

Minister Grindeanu was, together with Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, on a working visit to the construction site on Valea Oltului, Boita area.

Progress from 50%, about where we were last week, we’re close to 75%, so we’re on the chart. Next week we have the maximum deadline of August 9 when traffic will reopen. I have no reason at this time, neither I, nor Director Pistol, nor the other colleagues to believe that this deadline will be met. They worked very well, they worked consistently during this period, proof that they reached these percentages of 75% in these 3 weeks“, stated the Minister of Transport, Sorin Grindeanu, writes Digi24.ro.

He added that the decision to close traffic was not an easy one to make.

Postponing the works this month would have meant a delay of one year and penalties of 80 million lei. I thank you for your support, I explained very well to the Prime Minister and I also told you this, what are the arguments for why we need to close this traffic. The Prime Minister understood, we also had his support and we had the support, first of all, of those who worked. I hope, (…) the maximum deadline, the one announced by us on August 9, to reopen the traffic, to respect this deadlineGrindeanu also said.

On July 8, traffic on the Olt Valley was closed. Deforestation works were carried out in the Boita area to allow the construction of the new Pitesti – Sibiu highway.

There could be new traffic restrictions on DN7

Minister Sorin Grindeanu also said that after the opening of traffic, new restrictions could appear.

But only on certain sections, where only one lane will be partially closed.

Our concern is not only to finish these works by August 9. Our concern is also after, to have safety, to mount nets, to mount those parapets, which even after the resumption of traffic, the works that will continue here, on these access roads, on everything that the company will do, to avoid situations where stones, wood, boulders end up on the roads. It is one of our concerns“, Minister Sorin Grindeanu also specified.
