As reported by the Polish police, Opole police officers together with the Kliuchbork District Prosecutor’s Office are investigating the events of Sunday afternoon in Namysluv. According to preliminary data, a 32-year-old man shot dead three people during a family meeting here, and imprisoned three others.
“When one of those individuals was able to get out of the house, he called for help. Police officers from Opole, as well as negotiators, officers from the anti-terrorism units in Opole and Wroclaw were sent to the scene.
Despite efforts to start a conversation, the man ignored the policemen’s demands. It was decided to enter the house by force, then the special forces officers freed the two children. According to preliminary data, the man shot himself.
The woman and children are currently under the care of doctors, their lives and health are not in danger,” the Opole police page says.
According to tvn24.pl, this drama happened at a family gathering. According to officials, the man himself invited his family members for Sunday lunch. After shooting three people, the man took a woman and two children, one five and the other seven, hostage.
It was the woman who managed to escape from the house and called for help.
According to the portal, seven people were to participate in the family lunch – the shooter himself and six other family members.
Prosecutors say that the man first shot his father and brother, then began to terrorize his brother’s girlfriend, who was present at the scene, and tied her up, having earlier ordered the young children in the house to be tied up.
The woman managed to escape and after running to the neighbors she called for help. When the officers arrived, they tried to make contact with the man, but when they failed, they entered by force.
“The policemen, who broke into the building, reported that in addition to the two men who were shot, there was also the body of a woman, who was found to be the shooter’s mother, and also the remains of the shooter himself, who was believed to have committed suicide,” the prosecutor’s office said.
According to them, the woman who escaped saw both men being shot, but it is not yet clear when the shooter’s mother was also killed.
The children rescued by the officials are healthy, but they, like the woman, are being cared for by doctors and psychologists.
As reported tvn24.plprosecutors confirm that the 32-year-old man had the gun legally, saying that he received the permit as an athlete.
According to the prosecutors, at least so far, there is no evidence that bad things happened in the family, let alone that the law enforcement services were informed about it.
Polish news agency PAP says the shooter was neither a law enforcement officer nor a soldier.
