Tragedy this afternoon, Thursday 9 January 2025, along the A1 motorway where a man lost his life in a terrible accident. The crash occurred in Umbria, near the stretch between Fabro and Orvieto, at kilometer 432 heading south. A man, a seventy-four year old Roman, was behind the wheel of his car when, probably due to a faultstopped in the emergency lane where he was hit and killed by a lorry.

As anticipated, the facts date back to late afternoon today, Thursday 9 January 2025, around 6 pm. A 74-year-old man from Rome was driving his car in a southerly direction. At kilometer 432, in the stretch between Fabro and Orvieto, the seventy-four year old would have pulled over in the emergency lanepresumably due to a car breakdown.

He was still parked when, according to initial reconstructions, a lorry hit the car and ran over it. The truck would have dragged the vehicle for a hundred metres, crushing it. There was nothing that could be done for the seventy-four-year-old Roman on board, who died instantly.

The arrival of help on the A1 motorway

The alarm went off immediately. As soon as the report arrived, the firefighters, the traffic police and the 118 emergency medical workers arrived on site. The stretch of road remained closed to allow emergency services to intervene and carry out investigations. In a short time, queues up to three kilometers long formed.

Once they arrived at the scene of the terrible accident, the emergency medical workers rushed towards the driver of the car. There was nothing more that could be done for him and the rescuers were forced to declare his death.
