Train operations are approaching normal operation in Jutland after breakdowns

Banedanmark had to suspend train operations on a number of train lines in Jutland on Thursday due to problems with the digital signaling system.

The problems have since been resolved and the trains in Jutland are closer to running as on any other normal Thursday evening.

This is what Deputy Traffic Director at Banedanmark Nicolai Smidt Sigsgaard tells Ritzau on Thursday evening at 22:20.

– We are in the process of running trains again on all the affected sections in Jutland on our new signaling system. Now we drive according to the evening timetable, he says.

However, train operations are not completely back to normal operation.

– You may still experience individual cancellations and some delays. But overall, the traffic will run again this evening, he says.

At 20:00 on Thursday evening, Banedanmark started to run trains on an hourly basis, since a short time before it could be concluded that the problems with the signaling system had been solved.

The hourly operation has been implemented late Thursday evening on all the previously affected sections.

However, the deputy traffic director particularly encourages passengers in West and North Jutland to check the Travel Plan before setting off for the train.

The expectation is that train operations will return to normal on the previously affected sections on Friday morning.

– Of course, we are also ready to intervene if something should arise.

Banedanmark did not have an answer on Thursday evening as to what caused the problems with the signaling system.

– It is clear that after a breakdown, such as we have seen today, we have people analyzing the cause, says Nicolai Smidt Sigsgaard.

Investigations into the breakdown will take place in the coming days.

The problems with the train operation affected a wide range from North Jutland down to central and southern Jutland.

Banedanmark is in the process of replacing the old analogue train signals with new digital signal systems. They have already been implemented on a number of routes.
