Problems with our feet are not life-threatening diseases, but since this part of our body bears the entire burden, even the smallest problem causes serious discomfort.

If we have pain, whether it’s a transverse arch, or an ankle sprain, or because of a hammer finger or a cam, it ruins our whole day. We can’t even work properly, and they can even cause headaches. During the course of trunk development, our feet gradually became suitable for upright walking – except that sometimes developmental abnormalities must be corrected so that the feet can perform their tasks adequately. That way the foot is the part of our body that suffers the most from the harms of civilization. It does not like smooth, hard ground, asphalt. The arched structure of the feet of city dwellers breaks down in people in their thirties. From this point of view women whose body weight increases significantly during pregnancy are particularly at risk, nor does extreme fashion spare their feet.

Formation

Initially, persistent rubbing or pressure on a given area of the bodyn causes thickening of the stratum corneum and hardening of the skin. This callus has a protective effect; the tougher skin protects the bone from irritation as long as it does not thicken too much. We speak of corns when the stratum corneum extends all the way to the periosteum, then – due to the fact that the periosteum is richly supplied with sensory nerves – unbearable stabbing-burning pain occurs when pressure is applied.

So contrary to belief A corn is not a viral or bacterial infection that can be caught, but rather a swollen, red and painful corneal tube between the periosteum and the skin.. This skin formation most often occurs on the feet, but it can also be found on other body surfaces in those whose occupation involves repeated trauma to a certain body surface (e.g. on the jawbone and collarbone of a violinist). Writing instruments and heavy hand tools can also cause the same thing on the hand.

On the feet, not only tight shoes, but also pressing the toes together can play a role in the formation. It occurs as a result of an anatomical deviation of the foot poor weight distribution is also among the causes, but the role of smoking is also significant. In such cases the peripheral blood vessels narrow, the blood supply to the limbs decreases significantly.

A reduced supply of nutrients to the cells can cause thickening of the stratum corneum and the formation of corns. In the same way, it can also develop as a result of improper nutrition (too many carbohydrates and sweets). Its spiritual background may be excessive clinging to something that should have been let go a long time ago. The physical manifestation of this psychic fact is the grasping of the toes, as if they would also grip in the shoes, so their protruding part would be under excessive pressure. In old age, the tendons also shorten, the fingers retract, and the so-called hammer finger.

Treatment and prevention

Corns and calluses are easier to prevent with comfortable footwear and proper foot care than to treat already developed skin conditions. The initial hardening of the skin can be repaired quickly and visibly. We need to ensure the introduction of substances that promote epidermal formation into the skin. These include creams containing vitamins A and F, cod liver oil, and slightly acidic fruit juices.

Let’s soak our feet in water as warm as we can bear, then when we have wiped the feet dry, remove the neglected, cornified parts with a heel file and massage the given skin area well with the above-mentioned vitamin or herbal (rosemary, lemon or marigold) with softening cream. This should be continued regularly in the evenings until the callus thins and we feel its relative softness and flexibility. The corns and calluses of people with diabetes or poor circulation heal only slowly, especially those on the feet, they must take special care to protect their feet.

If corns have already formed before visiting a pedicurist or doctor, perform the following simple treatment steps at home:

Step 1: A few days before the removal of the corn, it is worth applying a peeling agent available in pharmacies to the affected area, for example, we should apply a patch or solution containing salicylic acid. Before treatment, the skin surface to be treated must be thoroughly cleaned and dried. Cut the patch according to the size of the skin surface to be treated, remove the protective paper and place the patch on the skin, making sure that it only comes into contact with the callus. We have to protect the surrounding healthy skin, because salicylic acid also dissolves the intact skin surface, marja! Nowadays, these salicylic acid plasters are protective rings and neutral plasters in one.

We can use either exfoliating herbs and their solutions available in pharmacies without a prescription, or their homemade extract from them. Such by dripping the juice squeezed from the fleshy leaves of the blood-dropping swallowwort or the stone rose on the affected area, then the corns can be treated by applying the pulp left over from the leaf and fixing it overnight with a gauze bandage. THE red onion due to its high essential oil content, it can be used chopped. Pineapple exfoliates dead and renews healthy skin cells. Citrus fruits include a grapefruit seed-extract and the citron its juice can also be excellently used in a foot bath and applied to plasters.

Step 2: After removing the exfoliating substances, we need to soak the cornified skin area well, like this corns can be painlessly removed by hand from sufficiently softened skin. Corns and calluses can also be thinned out with a pumice stone used when bathing. Only a doctor or nurse can use a scalpel to remove the thick layer of corn.

Step 3: Aftercare is also very important to prevent corns from forming again. Use vitamin-containing skin nutrients and skin softening creams. Many foot care creams, balms and washes contain various medicinal herbs, for example sage, lavender, pine, rosemary or thyme. We can use lanolin or moisturizers to soften our skin. THE menta it’s cool, it is avocado oil and it is initial summary has a refreshing effect. THE Cayenne pepper extract helps blood flowand warms our feet in no time. Lemon is particularly effective in treating dry skin, and excellent refreshment. However, skin irritation may occur in people with sensitive skin.

When corns are so severe that even pedicures and other remedies do not help, then surgery is the solution. Leg deformities that cause calluses can now be routinely operated on with good results. In old age, when an internal medicine disease, e.g. arteriosclerosis or diabetes is the cause of corns, then doctors are reluctant to touch the scalpel, rather they order orthopedic shoes and stress relievers for the patient, thus reducing the load in the unwanted place and helping walking.
