“The public service died with you.” The city of Grenoble paid tribute this Monday to Lilian Dejean, one of its employees shot dead the day before by a hit-and-run driver, and more broadly to public service agents exposed to violence.
Several dozen municipal employees, who exercised their right to withdraw, gathered in the morning in the lobby of City Hall, where they posted photos and messages to Lilian Dejean. “You who loved helping others, you stupidly lost your life,” one can read.
“Commitment to public service”
A delegation was received by the Green mayor Eric Piolle who has been denouncing since the day before an “atrocious crime” fueled by “the circulation of firearms” responsible for numerous episodes of violence in his city. On France Bleu Isère, the elected official reiterated his “anger” on Monday in the face of “someone completely brainless” who shot a person who came to help him “as our public agents are led to do very often everywhere in France”. “I am an employer and our agents in their mission are often exposed to very conflictual confrontations. We have a thought for all this commitment to public service”, he added.
Rallies organized this Monday
The city of Grenoble has announced that a tribute will be held this Monday behind the City Hall at 2 p.m. for Lilian Dejean, a Grenoble municipal employee who was shot dead this Sunday.
