Trindade Theater evacuated due to short circuit in adjacent building

The Teatro da Trindade, in Lisbon, was evacuated this Saturday night due to a short circuit in an adjacent building, but no fire was recordedfirefighters and PSP told Lusa.

“It was a fire in a building next to the Teatro da Trindade, we are waiting for the EDP picket and proceeding to extinguish the fire,” a source from the Lisbon Sapadores Fire Regiment (RSB) told Lusa.

The same source added that the incident occurred with a “medium voltage” cable.

“What happened was a short circuit with electrical cables in a building adjacent to the theater”, A source from the PSP’s Lisbon Metropolitan Command told Lusa, adding that “the situation is under control”.

According to the Lisbon Fire Department, the alert was given at 10:26 pm.

“The show had already ended, most people had already left, there were about 40 people missing out of the 400 who had been there”, explained the RSB source, in relation to the evacuation of the theater.

An official PSP source confirmed that it was “a situation related to a medium voltage cable” and, despite the strong device in place, “it had nothing to do with the riots of the last few days” in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area.

There were members of the Lisbon Firefighters, the PSP and the municipal Civil Protection at the scene.
