Trump announces tariffs on China, Mexico and Canada – World

Donald Trump announced that he intends to impose additional 10% tariffs on Chinese products due to the alleged massive entry of narcotics into the US from China, he wrote in a post on his social network.

In another publication in Truth Social, the US president-elect also said that he will sign documents to impose a 25% tariff on all goods imported from Canada and Mexico due to the entry of illegal immigrants and drugs originating in both countries.

As an argument for the tariffs, Trump claims in the publications that “drugs are entering our country, mainly through Mexico, at levels never seen before” and that China has not fulfilled its promises to apply the death penalty to fentanyl traffickers.

“Until they stop, we will charge China an additional 10% tariff, on top of any existing tariffs, on all of their many products entering the US,” Trump wrote.

Regarding countries neighboring the US, Trump said he will sign an executive order on his first day in office to impose a tariff on all products from Mexico and Canada.

“As everyone knows, thousands of people are entering through Mexico and Canada, bringing crime and drugs at levels never seen before,” he claims.

It also adds that the tariffs “will remain in effect until drugs, in particular fentanyl, and all illegal immigrants cease this invasion of our country.”

The currencies of the respective countries reacted negatively against the dollar, with the Canadian dollar falling 1%, the Mexican peso falling 1.6% and the offshore yuan falling 0.3%.
