Trump appoints retired lieutenant general to Ukraine post

Donald Trump has appointed retired Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg as the next special envoy with a focus on Ukraine and Russia.

Trump writes this on the social media Truth Social.

– Together we will secure peace through strength and make the United States and the world safe again, writes the future US president.

According to the news agency Reuters, Keith Kellogg has presented Trump with his proposal for how the war between Russia and Ukraine can end.

That plan implies, among other things, that the front lines must be frozen, while the parties are forced to the negotiating table.

Kellogg was chief of staff of the US National Security Council while Trump was president from 2017 to 2021.

He was also national security adviser to then-Vice President Mike Pence.

The US currently has no special envoy who focuses on the situation in Ukraine and Russia.

During the election campaign leading up to the presidential election, Trump made it one of his hallmarks to quickly end the war in Ukraine.
