Trump campaign falters, new complaints about Harris funding | News

The campaign of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC).

The alleged reason is that the money collected to support the re-election of the current head of the White House, Joe Biden, after his withdrawal from the election race, was received by Vice President Kamala Harris. She will probably become the candidate of the Democratic Party.

After Biden, 81, announced on Sunday that he would not seek re-election and endorsed Harris, the vice president took over his campaign accounts. In this context, the Trump campaign is talking about 91.5 million dollars (2.1 billion crowns). The dispute over this money is one of the ways Republicans are trying to thwart Harris’ efforts to become the Democratic nominee, Reuters writes. Delegates will officially decide on her nomination next month.

Trump campaign officials said Harris “brazenly raked in funds” from the Biden campaign, calling the complaint to the FEC “the largest violation of campaign finance rules in American history.” According to Trump’s legal adviser David Warrington, Harris is not entitled to the money because she is not yet an official candidate, DPA writes. Biden could not give them to her because he is no longer a candidate and is therefore not entitled to this amount, Warrington claims.

But Saurav Ghosh of the Independent Campaign Center told Reuters that because Harris was part of Biden’s re-election campaign as a vice presidential candidate, her claim to the money should be certain. In any case, the FEC is unlikely to rule on the matter before the November 5 election.
