Trump in first speech since assassination: God was on my side

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump had no doubt that it was an attack when he heard gunshots during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.

He says this from the stage at the Republican party convention in Milwaukee.

– I knew immediately that it was very serious and that we were under attack, says Donald Trump.

On Saturday, the former president was hit by a stray bullet in his right ear during an assassination attempt. He still has a bandage around his ear on stage.

He began his account of the assassination by saying that it will be the only time you hear him talk about the process. It is a painful subject for him, it said.

– The amazing thing is that before the shot, if I hadn’t jerked my head at the last moment, the assassin’s bullet would have hit its target with perfection. And I wouldn’t have been here tonight, he says.

Although for the ex-president there was no doubt that the situation was serious, he felt “in a certain way very safe because I had God on my side”.

Trump took the stage about half an hour late. It is the first speech he has given since he was attacked on Saturday.

It is also Trump’s first speech since he was officially nominated on Monday as the Republican Party’s presidential candidate for the November 5 election.

Corey Comperatory – a 50-year-old man who lost his life as a bystander during the assassination – was also given a place in Trump’s speech to the convention.

The Republican thus kissed a helmet and jacket belonging to Comperatory, who was a volunteer firefighter.

As it currently stands, the Democrats’ Joe Biden, who is also the country’s current president, will be Trump’s opponent in the election.

The ex-president made it clear in his speech that he has no doubt that he will win.

– In four months we will have an incredible victory, it says.

He also emphasizes that he wants to be president of “all of America, not half of America”.
