The newly elected President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, has appointed the former Attorney General of Florida, Pam Bondi, as the Secretary of Justice of the United States, Reuters reported.
Trump nominated Pam Bondi to replace his former running mate Matt Goetz, who withdrew after facing opposition from Senate Republicans over the House Ethics Committee’s investigation into allegations of sexual relations with an underage girl ( 17), which he denied.
Pam Bondi served as the top law enforcement officer in the third most populous state in the US from 2011 to 2019, while in the administration during Trump’s first term, she served on the Commission on Opioid and Drug Abuse.
Trump announced his choice of Pam Bondi for attorney general on social media and praised her for her prosecutorial experience.
He said Bondi would end the politicization of the federal prosecution.
“For too long, the party’s Department of Justice has been against me and other Republicans – not anymore. “Pam will refocus the Justice Department on its purpose of fighting crime and making America safe again,” Trump said.
He also put forward the idea of appointing Kevin Varš as the Minister of Finance, with the possibility that he could later be the head of the Federal Reserve, the Wall Street Journal reported today, referring to sources familiar with the subject, reports Tanjug.
According to those sources, Trump discussed the potential arrangement with Varsh, a former investment banker who served on the Federal Reserve Board, at his Mar-a-Lago estate on Wednesday.
The Wall Street Journal also said Trump is also considering naming Scott Bessant, a longtime hedge fund investor who taught at Yale University, to head the White House’s National Economic Council, before he could be nominated to replace Warsh at the Treasury.
So far, there has been no official announcement about these appointments.
