Trump nominates ex-Arkansas governor as ambassador to Israel

The evangelical Christian politician is known for his pro-Israel stance and support for the disputed West Bank settlements.

Trump’s decision is expected to strengthen American-Israeli relations, but at the same time it may provoke criticism from the international community.

In a statement, Trump praised Huckabee’s commitment to Israel.

He loves Israel and the people of Israel, and likewise the people of Israel love him. Mike will work tirelessly to bring peace to the Middle East!

– said the former president.

The 69-year-old Huckabee has previously sharply criticized President Joe Biden’s Israel policy, particularly in relation to the Gaza conflict. In an interview in March, he stated:

If someone is pro-Israel, how can they be pro-Biden, because the Biden administration has made it very clear that they will make concessions to Hamas

Huckabee served as governor of Arkansas from 1996 to 2007. He ran for the Republican presidential nomination twice, in 2008 and 2016, but was unsuccessful on both occasions.

His family continues to play an active role in American public life. His daughter, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, is currently the governor of Arkansas and previously served as Trump’s White House press secretary from 2017 to 2019.
