US President-elect Donald Trump nominates former wrestling executive Linda McMahon as his Secretary of Education.
Trump states this in a statement.
“For the past four years, as chairman of the board of the America First Policy Institute (AFPI), Linda has been a strong advocate for parents’ rights,” says Trump.
He adds that McMahon will fight “tirelessly” to expand free school choice throughout the United States.
In addition to the post of education minister, McMahon has also been in the running for the post of trade minister, writes Reuters.
During Trump’s first term in office, McMahon headed the Small Business Administration (SBA), which supports self-employed and small businesses with advice, helps them raise capital and enter into contracts.
Must be approved by the Senate
She has supported Donald Trump ever since he announced almost ten years ago that he would run for president of the United States.
She is also known for having been at the head of the WWE wrestling association with her husband, Vince McMahon.
In 2019, she resigned from the post at SBA to instead head the political campaign organization America First Policy. The organization provides financial support to candidates who run for federal politics and will fight for Donald Trump’s policies.
Donald Trump has said during the election campaign leading up to the US presidential election on 5 November that he wants to abolish the Ministry of Education, writes Reuters. This can only be done with the approval of Congress.
Trump is currently in the process of naming who will make up his administration when he is sworn in on January 20, 2025.
Before that, the future ministers – including Linda McMahon – must be approved by the Senate.
