Trump Says No to Third TV Debate with Kamala Harris, Why He Refused and the Reaction in the Polls

Donald Trump announced via his social network Truth that will not participate in a third debate with the vice president Kamala Harris. Having already faced Harris in a televised debate and President Joe Biden earlier, Trump said he saw no need for another meeting.

What Trump Wrote on Truth

In a long post on Truth Social, Donald Trump He explained the reasons for his refusal: “When a boxer loses a fight, the first words out of his mouth are: ‘I WANT A REVENGE’”.

And he continues: “The polls clearly show that I won the debate against Kamala Harris, the radical left candidate, and she immediately called for a second debate.” He then harshly criticized Harris and Biden for their management of the country, accusing them of causing economic and social problems, including rising inflation and uncontrolled immigration.

Finally, he concluded by reiterating that “there will not be a third debate,” attacking Harris for not showing up at the debates organized by Fox, NBC and CBS.

The reaction in the polls

Trump’s decision not to participate in a new debate with Harris appears to have had consequences also in polls.

According to a Reuters-Ipsos survey, Harris is now ahead by five percentage points over Trump, with 47 percent of the vote compared to the former president’s 42 percent. The gap has grown since the last survey in August, which saw a lead of just four points.

53% of respondents believe Harris won the last televised debate, while only 24% indicated Trump as the winner. In addition, Harris’ campaign has collected 47 million dollars in the 24 hours following the debate, a clear sign of support from his supporters.

Trump Campaign: “Kamala Hates Cats”

In an unusual move, Trump’s campaign has shifted to a lighter communications strategy, accusing Kamala Harris of hating cats. AI-generated memes and images have appeared on social media, depicting cats with messages like “Don’t let them eat me, vote Trump” and “Kamala hates me.”

The campaign is tied to a controversial comment Trump made during the debate, in which he claimed that Ohio is experiencing kitten and dog kidnappings by Haitian immigrants.

Despite moderator David Muir denying the story, Trump did not walk back his words, further fueling the social narrative.
